Outlook Express was discontinued in 2007 and was integrated into Internet Explorer and later included in Windows 2000, Windows Me, and Windows XP. The last version is Outlook Express 6.
It has been replaced by the Windows Mail application and the Windows Live Mail application for PC. For macOS, it has been replaced by Apple Mail and Microsoft Outlook sold as part of Microsoft Office for Macintosh.
Outlook Express is different from Microsoft Outlook and Outlook.com. The instructions below are for all systems running Microsoft Express.
Migration Process
Even if you have a backup copy of your important Outlook Express address book data, you can restore contacts from those files in Outlook Express if you have the OE application on your PC.
To restore or import Outlook Express contacts from a backup copy, please do as follows:
- Review the procedure on how to back up or copy Outlook Express contacts to make sure you haven't missed anything.
- Tools | Address Book... from the menu in Outlook Express.
- Now File | Get | Address Book (WAB) ... from the Address Book menu.
- Choose a backup copy of your Outlook Express address book.
- Click Open .
- OK , click.
Considerations
If you initially saved your backup file as a comma-separated value export, you may need to adjust the names of the column headers to suit the requirements of your specific application, but you can import them into other modern Contacts applications.
